Monday Nights

4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Overview

Join our chess club Monday afternoons starting at 4:00 pm. The first 90 minutes of the chess club is curriculum structured. Then we have open chess play from 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm. 

Curriculum​:

  • Review inspiring grand-master chess games

  • Weekly tactical puzzles

  • Checkmate patterns

  • Classic openings

  • Analyzing middle games for positions and ideas

  • Studying end games in depth 

  • Recommended reading

  • Follow current world chess tournaments

  • Introduction to top players and their habits

Waivers for Checkmate - Chess at The Academy

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Specialty classes have limited enrollment; early enrollment is recommended. In the event that the class you want to sign up for is full, your child will be placed on a waiting list.

Consent & Release:

My child wishes to participate in various learning activities sponsored

and conducted by The Academy of 21st Century Learning (“Academy”), both at its place of business in the Nut

Tree Shopping Center in Vacaville, CA and at certain other locations, including individual and group tutoring and

educational enrichment activities and programs (“Activities”). The undersigned parent or legal guardian of the

Student desires that the Student participate in the Activities.

In consideration of The Academy’s willingness to allow the Student to participate in the Activities, and as an

inducement to The Academy to make the Activities available to the Student, the undersigned parent or legal

guardian agrees as follows:

1. The undersigned releases from liability and holds harmless The Academy and its employees, agents,

members and officers for any injury to the Student’s person or damage to his or her property, and such

released persons, and each of them, shall have no responsibility for any medical expenses resulting from

any injury incurred by the Student during, or as a result of, participation in the Activities. The undersigned

understands that The Academy makes no representation as to the condition or safety of the land,

structures, or surrounding properties that may be involved in the Activities, whether or not owned, leased

or operated by The Academy.

2. The undersigned hereby grants to The Academy, its members, employees, and agents, the right and

permission to publish, reproduce, distribute and/or otherwise use the undersigned’s name or the name of

the Student and any and all still photos or moving photographic images or sound recordings of the

undersigned or the Student in whole or in part and/or made in conjunction with similar performances made

by other individuals (“Performance”), together with any statement or endorsement (“Testimonial”) made by

the undersigned or the Student. The Performance and/or the Testimonial may be used in such manner, for

such purposes and with such frequency as The Academy shall determine in its sole discretion relating to

the promotion and marketing of the Activities, without any monetary or other compensation to the

undersigned or the Student. The Performance and the Testimonial are the sole property of The Academy.

The undersigned states that he/she is the parent or legal guardian of the Student. The undersigned has read and

understand the terms of this Release and Consent Agreement and such terms constitute the full and complete

agreement of the undersigned and The Academy and supersedes all previous statements or agreements, either

oral or written.

Emergency Release:

We, the legal parents/guardian of the children identified above, give permission to The Academy of 21st Century

Learning to take any necessary action for the health and welfare of my child during any emergency situation. This

action may include contacting emergency personnel prior to contacting the child's physician or parents/guardian.

Information Exchange:

I authorize The Academy of 21st Century Learning ("Academy") to receive, exchange, and provide information that the Academy believes may be beneficial to the tutoring and instruction of my student with my student's teachers, counselors, physicians, and others that the Academy deems appropriate for the

benefit of my student. I also authorize my student's teachers, counselors, physicians, and others to provide

information to The Academy including confidential disclosures that they deem appropriate in their discretion for

the tutoring and instruction of my student. I believe that this mutual exchange of information is necessary and

appropriate for the purpose of providing the very best educational experience to my student.

Medical Conditions:

Please submit a short note detailing your child’s condition or limitations along with the registration form. This includes any food allergies as we may provide snacks in some classes as a part of the curriculum.

Discipline Policy:

All campers have the right to enjoy a positive, healthy, and safe experience at The Academy. As a part of this right, all students are expected to follow and support our expectations of participation, positive attitude, and respectful behavior at all times. Behavior or language perceived by the staff to bedisrespectful, hurtful, unsafe, or threatening may result in suspension or dismissal from the program. This extends to any behaviorthat undermines our goal to best serve the needs of all our students.

Attendance:

Due to the nature of the Specialty Classes, no make-up classes will be available. **Students are expected to be dropped off and picked up no more than 10 minutes prior to and after classes
